The history of Bodega Contador began in 1995, when oenologist and winegrower Benjamín Romeo acquired a century-old winery beneath the castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra in La Rioja . There he produced the first harvest of his wine "La Cueva del Contador" and began buying vineyards for his winery project. Over the following years, he carried out small-scale winemaking in the cellar and continued to acquire vineyards. In 1999, he produced the first vintage of his wine "Contador". After seeing how well these first wines were received by the market and the specialist media, Benjamín decided to devote himself exclusively to his personal project: the production of exceptional wines!
