At the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, on the shores of the Black Sea, Georgia is considered one of the ‘cradles of wine’. With one of the oldest wine-growing traditions in the world, Georgia boasts 8,000 years of winemaking history (dated from fragments of Kveri found—these traditional earthenware pots were buried to preserve the wine), of which around 500 indigenous grape varieties still survive today. A richness at the heart of Georgian Wines & Spirits (GWS)’s DNA, which cultivates rare grape varieties in its Georgian vineyards using modern and sustainable methods ( organic soil fertilisation and a ban on herbicides). Just like Bialoni wines, easily recognisable with their Byzantine-inspired aesthetic. Born from the Vardisubani vineyard, with both old and new vines, the Bialoni collection is situated in the Tsinandali AOC: a unique micro-terroir, nestled at an altitude of 600 metres, in the heart of an ancient riverbed. Under a label adorned with historical mosaics from Tbilisi, the country’s capital, Bialoni offers a fascinating range of new wines, crafted to reveal the authenticity and depth of the Georgian terroir.
