In the heart of Palermo’s rolling hinterland, between the villages of Santa Cristina Gela and Pianetto, Baglio di Pianetto embodies “traditional Sicily in transition, driven by innovation and environmental conservation”, to quote Grégoire Desforges, the third generation at the helm of the family estate. Founded in 1997 by Count and Countess Marzotto, the estate reflects a family’s passion for viticulture, nature and Sicily, the most mountainous of the Italian islands. Working alongside a highly skilled team renowned in the wine world (Dante Bonacina, Graziana Grassini, Giuseppe Lo Iacono…), Count Marzotto’s grandson maintains a balance between producing wines of excellence and environmental sustainability across the 106 hectares of organically farmed vineyards nestled in the heart of the Sicilian mountains (at altitudes of up to 900 metres). Characterised by their freshness and minerality, the “Viafrancia” wines – sourced from micro-zones and specific vineyard sites, and notably the single-varietal “In Purezzo” range – evoke the richness of this unique terroir, bottled by the pioneering Baglio di Pianetto. Respecting both tradition and the local community, whilst embracing a modern and elegant spirit, this high-altitude estate continues to evolve whilst remaining true to its essence.
