Founded in 1826 by James Gordon Lour Burnet, Aberlour was destroyed by fire in the mid-nineteenth century and rebuilt in 1879 by James Fleming. The water that comes from "the mouth of the chattering burn" (the literal translation of Aberlour in Gaelic), goes through the peat and granite soil before being added to the pure whiskey coming out of the distillery's pot-stills.
