Listrac-Médoc AOC

Listrac-Médoc is one of the 6 communal AOCs of the Médoc peninsula. The youngest and smallest AOC in the Médoc, its wines are known to be lively, generous, delicate and harmonious. Although the appellation has no classified growths, there are several Crus Bourgeois. The name of this appellation comes from the Latin word 'listra', which means border or edge. Indeed, Listrac-Médoc corresponds to the border between the Médoc forest and the Médoc vineyards. This designation dates back to the Middle Ages. Discover this Merlot-dominated appellation with Château Fourcas Hosten, Château Vieux Moulin and Château Clarke.

TASTING NOTES

vin rouge

RED WINE

Appearance: The colour is an intense dark ruby with lovely purple highlights. The deep colour announces a solid structure and a good ageing potential.

Nose: The nose is complex with a dominance of fresh red fruits. Balsamic, leather, liquorice and spice notes add to the bouquet. The second nose reveals toasted aromas, typical of the Médoc. If the wine has been aged in oak barrels, notes of vanilla appear in the bouquet.

Palate: In its youth, the palate is full-bodied, powerful, with a volume that coats the entire palate. The texture is fine, round, elegant and surprisingly delicate. The aromatic bouquet of the nose is also found on the palate, with a dominance of red fruits.

Service: 14-15 °C. We recommend decanting the wine only if it is young and has been aged in oak.

Ageing potential: 5 to 15 years.

MORE INFO

RICH TERROIRS SUITABLE FOR MERLOT

Like the neighbouring AOCs, Listrac-Médoc benefits from a richness and variety of soils. Three terroirs contribute to this diversity: Garonne gravel, Pyrenean gravel and clay-limestone soils. The gravelly soils contribute to the production of fine, powerful and complex wines. Suitable for the cultivation of both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, the soils of this terroir provide length on the palate as well as noble and fine tannins. These characteristics ensure that the wines of the peninsula have a good capacity for ageing.

The vines from the clay-limestone terroir produce fuller-bodied, more robust wines with good volume on the palate. The wines from this terroir have a good structure and have all the necessary components for a very good ageing capacity. These soils are favourable to the cultivation of the Merlot grape variety which brings fruit and roundness to the wine. The dominance of the Merlot grape in its blends differentiates Listrac-Médoc from neighbouring appellations. The resulting wines are more focused on fresh fruit notes.
