GRILLO

The emblematic white grape variety of Sicily.

Grillo

Also known as Riddu and Rossese Bianco, Grillo is a white grape variety grown in Sicily that is distinguished by its ability to withstand high temperatures. For the record, it was Julius Caesar's favorite grape variety! In Sicily, it is found in the province of Trapani, where it is the exclusive variety of the municipality of Marsala. It was traditionally planted as a shrub, nowadays it is planted as a low espalier. Its harvest is normally plentiful, but not all soils are suitable for this vine, which has the particularity of having a much higher sugar content than other white grapes and particular organoleptic properties. One of them is its texture, its dry white wines have body: tasty, fragrant, they are excellent wines with a good ageing potential superior to other Sicilian wines. Its alcohol content sometimes exceeds 15/16°, and it is increasingly vinified on its own, like the dry wines produced by the Feudo Arancio estate in Sambuca di Sicilia, in the plain of Agrigento, which is one of the most attractive wineries in Sicily. The estate's wines have been praised by the international press, and Grillo is also used in the composition of the famous sweet Sicilian wine, Marsala. The best Marsala wine is a 100% Grillo!

SHALL WE TASTE?
In the galss

vin blanc grillo

dry white

Nice liveliness. Bright, light straw yellow colour. Wide range of fragrances (jasmine, tropical fruits, citrus fruits) and a very good structure. This wine shows very distinct tropical aromas with flavours of mango and papaya, blending harmoniously with notes of white flowers (orange blossom, jasmine) that continue into a beautiful long finish. Iodine notes due to the proximity of the North-East facing coast. Drink young because it oxidizes quickly.

vin blanc sucre grillo

sweet white

Characteristic almond notes. Woody hints (when matured in oak barrels). Warm and gourmet.
