Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru AOC

Located in the Côte de Nuits vineyards in the Côte-d'Or, the northernmost wine region of Burgundy, Clos Saint-Denis is one of the five Grands Crus of Morey-Saint-Denis. Each of the Grands Crus has its own personality resulting from soil types that are nevertheless close and yet so different. The appellation produces red wines that can be kept for a long time and are quite powerful but silky. The Grands Crus are distinguished by their roundness and elegance. Made from Pinot Noir grapes, these wines have a great fruity tenderness and gain in depth when mature. Highly sought-after by connoisseurs, they are reserved for special occasions and refined meals: To be tasted at least once in your life, as they promise an unforgettable experience!

FOOD AND WINE PAIRING

vin rouge

RED WINE The wines of the appellation have a dense tannic substance and an aromatic richness that is perfectly suited to small game birds, with which they are an equal match. The supple but powerful tannins also allow them to accompany red meats (beef ribs, entrecote, braised veal or veal in sauce, roast lamb). They also adapt to the aromatic intensity of a glazed poultry for lovers of Asian cuisine. Strong, soft, washed-rind cheeses: Livarot, Époisses.

MORE INFO

BURGUNDY GRAND CRU

Located in Morey-Saint-Denis, Clos Saint-Denis enjoys the Grand Cru appellation like other prestigious wines in the Côte d'Or. It is one of the five Grand Crus of the village, along with Clos des Lambrays, Clos des Tart, Clos de la Roche and Bonnes Mares. At an altitude of about 250 metres, and facing the east, sometimes slightly east/south-east. The appellation was recognised as a Grand Cru on 8 December 1936. On the label, the name "Grand Cru" must appear immediately below the name of the appellation. One recognises its vibrant singularity which places it at the top of the Côte de Nuits wines. Definitely, the wines of Clos Saint-Denis are rare wines highly coveted by connoisseurs. To be tasted at least once in a lifetime as they promise an unforgettable tasting experience!

ORGANIC AND BIODYNAMIC, A SECOND NATURE!

Without being certified, the Pinot Noir is cultivated organically or biodynamically, as are most of the vineyards of the prestigious surrounding appellations. This is an important detail that helps the wines to progress, as they are already based on precise plot work.

AN APPELLATION FULL OF HISTORY

Created in the 11th century, it was attached until the Revolution to the Collegiate Church of Saint-Denis, the chapel of the Château de Vergy, a powerful fortress in the Hautes Côtes region that was razed to the ground in the 17th century. The vineyard is the standard-bearer for the village, which was simply called Morey until the beginning of the 20th century. This shows the importance of viticulture in the commune, even though the plots are so small!

In Burgundy, the term "Climat" is used to describe the terroir. On these 6.42 hectares, Clos Saint-Denis is composed of brown limestone soils with no gravel at the bottom of the hillside, with a presence of phosphorus as in Chambertin and clay as in Musigny. Occupying the middle part of the hillside, between 280 and 320 metres in altitude, Clos Saint-Denis originally comprised only 2 hectares. It has been enlarged by neighbouring Climats (Maison Brûlée, Calouère and Chaffots in part) and now covers some forty parcels.
