Clos de Tart AOC

A mythical property with a very high level of refinement!

Located in the vineyards of the Côte de Nuits, the northernmost wine region of Burgundy, Clos de Tart is one of the five Grands Crus in Morey-Saint-Denis. Clos de Tart is both an estate name and an appellation name: it is a monopoly. A single owner covers the entire appellation, producing exclusively red wines. Made from Pinot Noir, these great wines combine charm and robustness. Quite tannic in their youth, they soften with age, gaining in complexity. These are wines that are reserved for special occasions.

FOOD AND WINE PAIRING

vin rouge

RED WINE These Clos de Tart wines have a dense tannic structure and an aromatic richness that is perfectly suited to small game birds, with which they are an equal match. The supple but powerful tannins also allow them to accompany red meats (beef ribs, entrecote, braised veal or veal in sauce, roast lamb). They also adapt to the aromatic intensity of a glazed poultry for lovers of Asian cuisine. Strong, soft, washed-rind cheeses: Livarot, Époisses.

MORE INFO

BURGUNDY GRAND CRU

Located in Morey-Saint-Denis, near the commune of Chambolle Musigny, Clos de Tart enjoys the Grand Cru appellation like other great prestige wines in the Côte d'Or. The appellation was recognised as Grand Cru on 4 January 1939. On the label, the name "Grand Cru" must appear immediately below the name of the appellation.

It is one of the five Grands Crus of the village with Clos de la Roche, Clos des Lambrays, Clos Saint Denis and Bonnes Mares. At an altitude of about 250 metres, and facing the east, sometimes slightly east/south-east.

AN APPELLATION FULL OF HISTORY

In Burgundy, we speak of "climat" to talk about the terroir. With its 7.06 hectares of vineyards on clay-limestone soil (scree and limestone bedrock), Clos de Tart is both an estate name and an appellation name: it is a monopoly. The area belonged in one piece to Maison Mommessin, before becoming the property of Artémis.

Clos de Tart was founded in 1141 by Cistercian monks, which makes it a truly historic appellation. Since that date, it has remained a monopoly: it has been part of only three successive heritages!
