Clos de la Roche Grand Cru AOC

Located in the Côte de Nuits vineyards in the Côte-d'Or, the northernmost wine region of Burgundy, Clos de la Roche is one of the five Grands Crus of Morey-Saint-Denis. Each of these Grands Crus has its own personality resulting from soil types that are nevertheless close and yet so different. The appellation Clos de la Roche produces great wines with an assertive personality, very similar to Chambertin, intense and deep. Made from Pinot Noir grapes, these wines are round and gain in depth when mature. They are colourful, powerful, rich and full-bodied wines with caressing tannins that go well with the most distinguished dishes, such as game meat. Highly sought-after by connoisseurs, they are reserved for special occasions and refined meals: To be tasted at least once in your life, as they promise an unforgettable experience!

TASTING NOTES

vin rouge

RED WINE

Appearance: A wine with a deep ruby colour, tending towards dark and purple hues.

Nose: The aromas of small black and red fruits give way to undergrowth notes when open. This bouquet of undergrowth becomes more assertive with the years.

Palate: Full-bodied, with a chewy and surprisingly powerful character. Great length on the palate. Full of body and finesse, this wine ages with distinction. A real gem!

Service temperature: 16 to 18°C

Ageing potential: To drink up to 10 or 15 years, or even 30 to 50 years for the great vintages.

FOOD AND WINE PAIRING

vin rouge

RED WINE The wines of the appellation have a dense tannic substance and an aromatic richness that is perfectly suited to small game birds (pigeon) with which they are an equal match. The supple but powerful tannins also make it possible to accompany red meats (rib of beef, entrecote, braised veal or veal in sauce, roast lamb), but also large game (wild boar, venison). They also adapt to the aromatic intensity of a glazed poultry for lovers of Asian cuisine. Strong, soft, washed-rind cheeses: Livarot, Époisses, Vacherin, Mont d'Or, Saint Nectaire, Cîteaux.

MORE INFO

BURGUNDY GRAND CRU

Located in the norhern part of Morey-Saint-Denis, Clos de la Roche enjoys the Grand Cru status like other great prestige wines in the Côte d'Or. The appellation was recognised as Grand Cru on 8 December 1936. On the label, the name "Grand Cru" must appear immediately below the name of the appellation. It is one of the five Grands Crus of the village with Clos des Lambrays, Clos de Tart, Clos Saint Denis and Bonnes Mares. At an altitude of about 250 metres, and facing the east, sometimes slightly east/south-east. On the label, the name "Grand Cru" must appear immediately below the name of the appellation. With good weather conditions, the Clos de la Roche takes on its full dimension: we recognise its vibrant singularity which places it at the top of the Côte de Nuits wines. Definitely, the wines of Clos de la Roche are rare wines, highly sought-after by connoisseurs. To be tasted at least once in a lifetime as they promise an unforgettable tasting experience!

THE NAME OF THE APPELLATION COMES FROM ITS SOIL

In Burgundy, the term "Climat" is used to refer to the terroir. Clos de la Roche is a quasi-monopoly resulting from historical foundations and the regrouping of several Climats. At an altitude of 250 metres, the appellation benefits from good climatic conditions, exposed to the Levant. But its particularity which distinguishes it from the other Grands Crus of Morey-Saint-Denis comes from its rocky base. On its 16.89 hectares, the limestone soil is composed of barely 30 centimetres of earth, a little bit of pebbles and large blocks of stone which gave it its name.

ORGANIC AND BIODYNAMIC, A SECOND NATURE!

Without being certified, the Pinot Noir is cultivated organically or biodynamically, as are most of the vineyards of the prestigious surrounding appellations. This is an important detail that helps the wines to progress, as they are already based on precise plot work.
