Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru AOC

Located in the Côte de Nuits, the northernmost wine region of Burgundy, Charmes-Chambertin is one of the Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin. These are elegant and prestigious red wines made exclusively from Pinot Noir grape. They are wines destined to be kept for at least ten years before consumption.

RED WINE

Appearance: Their colour is bright, ranging from dark ruby to black cherry.

Nose: Violet and liquorice share the bouquet with vanilla nuances due to the barrel ageing. Sometimes even toasted notes.

Palate: On the palate, they show power, opulence and elegance to compose a voluptuous texture. Rich, concentrated, silky: an irresistible aromatic charm.

Service temperature: 12 to 14°C for young wines; 15 to 16°C for more aged wines.

Ageing potential: 10 to 15 years

FOOD AND WINE PAIRING

RED WINE Suitable for red meat, white meat in sauce and game: roast poultry, venison, pigeon with spices. Goes well with truffles.

VARIETY OF TERROIRS AND ONE GRAPE VARIETY: PINOT NOIR

With its 2700 hectares of vineyards, the appellation extends from Gevrey-Chambertin to Morey-Saint-Denis, the northernmost part of the hillside. The soils vary from brown earth composed of silt and gravelly scree on the upper part, to limestone with a clay content on the slopes.

Its exposure to the sun favours the emergence of Grands Crus. Under this diversity of terroirs, the king of Burgundy's red grape variety, Pinot Noir, is well expressed. All the wines are made from a single grape variety, which allows the typical characteristics of the terroirs to be revealed. For more authenticity, more and more estates are turning to the production of organic and biodynamic wines. The 7 closest climats have an obvious relationship with their recognition as Grands Crus.

A RENOWNED GRAND CRU

This Grand Cru of Gevrey-Chambertin comes from "Chaume", a parcel initially abandoned. It is continuous with the terroir of Mazoyères-Chambertin and the southernmost sections of Charmes-Chambertin may also use the name of Mazoyères-Chambertin appellation. However, the Charmes-Chambertin name is the most often used. This name makes the whole world dream.
