Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux AOC

Castillon sounds like a symbol of the end of the Hundred Years' War, in reference to the famous battle of the 15th century. In addition to the great Battle of Castillon between France and England, Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux is also an AOC of the Bordeaux vineyards, whose wines have been known and appreciated since the 2nd century by the Romans. With a quarter of its winegrowers working biodynamically, this AOC on the right bank of the Dordogne is distinguished by its respect for biodiversity. The Merlot grape variety is the king of this appellation whose wine production is exclusively red. Discover this AOC with Château de Pitray, Château d'Aiguilhe Querre, Château Montlandrie, Château de Bouty and Domaine de l'Aurage.

TASTING NOTES

vin rouge

RED WINE Generous wines with great finesse!

Appearance: The colour is sustained and concentrated, with a beautiful depth, between ruby and red topaz.

Nose: The influence of the Merlot grape variety marks the whole bouquet. There are aromas of ripe red berries as well as stone fruits such as plum and cherry. Scents of violets and sometimes leather perfume the nectar. On certain vintages and depending on the age, it is possible to note aromas of spices, ripe grapes, prunes, liquorice or even toasted bread. When a wine is aged in barrel, vanilla aromas appear.

Palate: The palate is expressive with a fine, ample and generous tannic structure. Elegance and strength are the hallmarks of the red wines of this AOC.

MORE INFO

Bordeaux terroir

The winegrowers of this AOC place great importance on respecting biodiversity on properties that consist of an average of only 10 hectares. Three main soil types bring diversity to the aromas and style of the wine. The terroir is gravelly, then clay, clay-limestone and finally evolves into limestone. This variety of soils produces wines that are sometimes warm and supple, sometimes robust and long-lived.

The plots of land in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux benefit from a large number of old vines. This results in grapes that are concentrated in flavour and therefore a rich and smooth wine.

Red wines with good ageing potential

The wines of Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux can be enjoyed easily when young. However, they can be kept for two to five years, or even seven years for certain cuvées.
