On the borderline between cultural tourism and gastronomic tourism, wine tourism in France is becoming THE centre of excellence designed to bring together the assets of the French heritage. In order to promote the diversity of French wines and terroirs internationally, several measures have been taken, including the creation of a dedicated website.
To encourage French and foreign tourists to visit the French wine regions, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched a series of measures in February 2016 to help promote the assets of the wine industry. More than a product, wine is considered a culture in its own right! A nice revenge on the 'Loi Evin' (French alcohol and tobacco policy law passed in 1991) which now allows freedom of information about wine and its terroirs.
More than 10,000 wine cellars can already be visited in France, and each year around 7.5 million visitors discover them, including 3 million from abroad. The objective is simple: to reach more international visitors thanks to all the services related to tourist stays in the wine regions.
The wine country gives you its secrets:
Online since 2016, Visit French Wine is the showcase of French wine tourism. To contribute to the opening up of French wine-producing regions, the bilingual English and French site offers a calendar of offers for stays in the vineyards, consultation of technical data sheets and meetings with winegrowers.
"More than a product, wine is increasingly a culture. Tourists are looking for stories, for products of excellence and to give meaning to what they eat and drink. This site will contribute to the influence of our wines and to the opening up of our territories. The objective is that a maximum number of people, French or foreign, should have access to our products" underlined Laurent Fabius.
On the website visitfrenchwine.com/en, your desires are not neglected. Depending on your profile, what you want to do and the destination of your choice, you can set up a panel of excursions that suits you best.
Single, in couple, with family or friends, whether you decide to discover good restaurants, to taste and to buy wine, to practise oenology, to meet winegrowers, to get off the beaten track to walk or cycle in the vineyards, or even to spend the night there... all the regions welcome you with open arms in a few clicks!
An intuitive and easy-to-navigate site that promises a great programme for the wine sector!
Also accessible from the www.france.fr/en portal, the official site for French tourism.
