Originally invented at the Burning Man festival, this is a concept inspired by the United States where classes are held in breweries. A rather unusual place to practice yoga.
As we know, the yoga craze comes in many different and surprising forms. A concept born in the United States mixes the pleasure of beer with yoga to give birth to Beer Yoga. A sport that keeps you in shape with a fun concept that is a hit in Germany!
If you are of legal age and live in Berlin, the site is called Bier Yoya: you will discover a programme of real yoga classes presented by Jhula, a certified teacher and beer enthusiast: she has combined her two passions. According to her, beer and yoga are two age-old therapies for body and soul: the joy of drinking and the mindfulness achieved through yoga complement each other to create "an energizing experience".
At regular intervals, participants are asked to take a sip of beer while holding a yoga posture. During the balancing exercises, the participants are asked to stand upright with a bottle on top of them.
But this practice is not only beneficial for health, Jhula is well aware of it. For her, it's more about having fun and being in a state of bliss: combining Zen with the pleasure of bubbles. Indeed, alcohol disturbs the perception and balance that is essential for yoga. Could this discipline be a way of knowing how to moderate oneself?
It is nonetheless a festive trend that is also practiced in bars, at festivals or during bachelor and bachelorette parties. Sessions are programmed on the site according to the location. A fun activity to be enjoyed with friends and in moderation.
For those who are still hesitating between sport and beer, it would seem that yoga does not prevent you from drinking... unless it is the other way around... We leave you to ponder!
