AN EXCEPTIONAL RED WINE
The vines of the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze grow on a long hillside resting on hard rock and on a moderate slope. This terroir has a subsoil made up of upper Bajocian marl, Ostera acuminata marl and limestone with entroques from the lower Bajocian. Benefiting from an exposure to the east, the vineyard benefits from optimal ventilation thanks to the northerly winds while being protected from the westerly winds, which bring rain. Combined with the know-how of the region’s winegrowers, these conditions are conducive to the production of exceptional red wines, constituting a sort of myth in the bottle. Complex and racy, these cuvées resemble the prestigious vintages of Chambertin AOC.
A GREAT WINE TO BE KEPT FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS
The Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is a great wine for ageing and gastronomy which will honor sophisticated cuisine. This wine combining power, finesse and elegance goes perfectly with stuffed capon, coq au vin or pigeon with spices. Marketed at a price reaching hundreds of euros, a wine of this appellation should be reserved for special occasions.
CLOS DE BÈZE, THE OLDEST OF ALL THE BURGUNDY CLOS
Clos de Bèze is one of the oldest Burgundian wine-growing areas and of the French vineyard. Its history dates back to the year 640 when the Duke of Burgundy offered the monks of the Abbey of Bèze a large vineyard and land estate, located north-east of Dijon, in Gevrey. The monks of the abbey created the Clos de Bèze there, which they sold in 1219 to the canons of the chapter of Langres. The latter were its owners until the Revolution.
