Ingredients
  • 750ml rosé wine
  • 100ml water
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 250g strawberries, sliced
  • juice of 2 limes
  • ice cubes or crushed ice

Preparation

  1. Pour the rosé wine into a gratin dish. Set aside in the freezer for at least 6 hours to solidify the liquid.
  2. In the meantime, heat the water and sugar in a saucepan. Stir constantly until the sugar melts completely. Stir in the sliced strawberries and remove the pan from the heat. Leave to infuse for about 30 minutes.
  3. After this time, use a fine sieve to strain the syrup, but do not crush the fruit too much. Cover and chill for 30 minutes.
  4. Pour the solidified rosé into a blender. Add the lime juice, strawberry syrup and a handful of ice cubes or crushed ice. Blend to a smooth mixture.
  5. Pour the mixture into a carafe and leave to cool for 30 minutes.
  6. Once cooled down, blend the mixture again in a blender.
  7. Divide into stemmed glasses and enjoy immediately.

A ROSÉ WINE GRANITA IDEAL AS A COCTKAIL THIS SUMMER

If there is one drink associated with the arrival of summer, it is surely rosé. During a barbecue, by the pool or simply during an aperitif with friends, this wine is synonymous with good weather and conviviality. But do you know Frozé or Frozen Rosé? A wine-based granita, this frosted cocktail is made with rosé wine and strawberries.

A little background

Frozé or Frosé is the contraction of the words "frozen" and "rosé". This rosé wine cocktail has its origins in the United States. It is said to have been created by Justin Sievers from the Primi bar. He wanted to create a new rosé-based summer cocktail to quench his customers' thirst when the temperatures warm up. The trend has now crossed borders and is taking over the trendy terraces in France and elsewhere in the world.

Frozé: what's all the hype about?

How to cool down on hot summer days? Frozen Rosé is the essential drink to quench your thirst. In addition to being cool and refreshing, Frozen Rosé has many other advantages. While the classic version is based on rosé wine and strawberries, you can spice up the frozé recipe by adding other ingredients: a red fruit purée, fruity strawberry or white peach syrups, other fruits, etc. Why not even add fruit liqueur for an extra touch?

WHICH ROSÉ WINE TO CHOOSE FOR THE FROZÉ?

As its name suggests, rosé wine is the main ingredient of Frozé. It is therefore important to choose it carefully for a successful taste experience. To prepare this frozen cocktail, there is no need to use the most prestigious rosé wines; those are best enjoyed with a gourmet meal. Prefer simple and fruity rosés, wines for pleasure such as those offered at low prices by Vinatis. As far as the type of wine is concerned, all rosés are ideal for making Frozé. However, to ensure that your granita retains its beautiful colour, choose a dark-coloured rosé. In addition, a rather fruity wine such as a rosé from the Loire Valley, Côtes de Provence or Languedoc.

APERITIF IDEA: SOME DISHES TO ACCOMPANY IT

Sitting in the garden or by the pool, with a glass of Frozé in hand, all that's missing is a few delicacies and you can take full advantage of the beautiful summer sun. However, for a successful pairing of flavours, certain preparations are not recommended with this refreshingly cold cocktail. This is the case with cheese and cold meats, for example, whose taste will be inhibited by the ice. Opt for fresh and tasty dishes that can withstand the cold. And to simplify your life, especially during your aperitifs around the pool, choose preparations that can be eaten without fuss. Watermelon balls, slices of yellow melon drizzled with a few drops of vinegar, cucumber sticks and other raw vegetables are all good choices. These pieces of raw fruit or vegetables can be eaten unseasoned or with mild or even slightly sweet sauces. With honey or yoghurt, for example!
