The flagship grape variety of Portugal
A noble black grape variety, it is considered to produce the finest red wines of Portugal. Touriga Nacional is a low yielding, thick-skinned grape rich in colour and tannins. It gives full-bodied, structured and complex wines with intense blackcurrant, raspberry, liqourice aromas combined with herbal and floral notes. Is the key ingredient for both dry red and fortified wines (Port). Touriga Nacional can be found as a mono-varietal, but also as a blend with other indigenous Portuguese grape varieties. Outside of Portugal, it can also be found in Australia. In the future it might be even found in Bordeaux as, to combat the effects of climate change, it has recently been approved as one of the new grape varieties to grow in the region.

Douro (Port wine)
Dark and intense ruby colour. On the nose intense aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry and liqourice combined with herbal and floral notes. On the palate it is full-bodied, structured and complex. In the youth the tannins are very present and coarse, but will smoothen when the wine is aged. The best wines can age more than a decade.
Essential in the production of Port wine. The colour varies from ruby to tawny or even golden depending on the style and age of the wine. The aroma characteristics also vary from sweet black fruits, dark chocolate notes to those of walnuts, coffee and caramel.
