Vosne-Romanée AOC

Preceding the production area of the AOC Nuits Saint Georges, Vosne Romanée is a Village appellation, created in 1936. It is located in the vineyards of the Côte de Nuits. Produced in the communes of Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echézeaux, it also includes climats classified as Premier Cru. The production of this AOC is concentrated on red wine, made exclusively from Pinot Noir grape variety. Often revealing an aromatic bouquet dominated by aromas of small red and black fruits, this wine for ageing offers a perfect balance between weight, structure, elegance and longevity. Discover this Burgundy appellation through Domaine François Lamarche, Maison Louis Jadot, Domaine de l'Arlot and Marchand Tawse.

TASTING NOTES

vin rouge

RED WINE

Appearance: An intense purple or fiery red wine, sometimes tending to garnet.

Nose: The aromatic bouquet is dominated by refined and melted notes of very ripe fruit (strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant and blueberry) on a spicy background. With ageing, aromas of cherry brandy, leather and fur notes appear.

Palate: Velvety and elegant, this wine offers the fullness of Pinot Noir, developing structure and weight after several years of maturity. Firm and austere in its youth, over time it reveals coated tannins and exceptional length on the finish.

Service: 13°C-14°C for young wines, 14°C-16°C for more aged vintages.

Ageing potential: 5 to 15 years.

FOOD AND WINE PAIRING

vin rouge

RED WINE Its power and velvety character allow it to accompany a wide choice of dishes. This wine goes perfectly with dishes based on strongly flavoured meats (red meat and game birds). With an older vintage with coated tannins, roasted poultry such as Bresse chicken or less flavorful game birds such as quail or pheasant are perfect. These dishes can be accompanied by a pan-fried mushroom whose earthy notes go very well with this wine. On the cheese side, Saint-Nectaire, Brie or Coulommiers will be delicious companions of a Vosne Romanée.

MORE INFORMATION

VOSNE ROMANÉE BURGUNDY 1ER CRU

Located at the top of the hill or on the foothills, on either side of the Grands Crus, the Vosne Romanée appellation is located between 235 and 350 meters above sea level with an exposure to the east. Located between the villages of Vougeot and Nuits-Saint-Georges, the vines grow on soils mixing layers of limestone and clayey marls. This village appellation has 14 climats classified as Premier Cru, namely:

  • Aux Brulées
  • Aux Raignots
  • Au-dessus des Malconsorts
  • Clos des Réas
  • En Orveaux
  • Aux Malconsorts
  • Cros Parantoux
  • Les Chaumes
  • Les Suchots
  • Les Petits Monts
  • Les Beaux Monts
  • La Croix Rameau
  • Les Rouges
  • Les Gaudichots

The vines of the communal appellation are found on the upper parts of the slope and on the lower parts at village level. On the other hand, the area of the Vosne Romanée 1er Cru village appellation is located halfway up the slope.

A WINE KNOWN AND APPRECIATED WORLDWIDE

The wines of the Vosne Romanée AOC are renowned for their exceptional quality. Ranked among the greatest wines in the world, they are the result of the combination of ideal conditions: limestone soils with deep clayey marls, perfectly exposed vines, a magnificent terroir and all the potential of Pinot Noir. As a result, the wines are complex, opulent, velvety and powerful. In addition, these exceptional crus have the advantage of being marketed at prices much more accessible than the Grands Crus of Burgundy.

Note that the town of Flagey-Échezeaux also produces two excellent Grands Crus worthy of being compared to prestigious Crus: Échezeaux AOC and Grands Échezeaux AOC.

These different appellations are among the gems contributing to the global influence of Burgundy wines. With its particularly fragmented vineyard, this wine-growing region offers excellent wines, the quality of which varies depending on the appellations, but also on the climat. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, these wines indeed produce wines with their own characteristics.

A BURGUNDY RED THAT HONOURS GREAT GASTRONOMY

The AOC Vosne Romanée produces an exceptional red wine from Burgundy that perfectly matches fine dining dishes. Fans of fine dining can marry this wine to keep with good products such as roast beef cooked with precision, topped with a tasty red wine sauce with grated truffle. An accompaniment with light flavours such as potatoes or seasonal mushrooms is recommended. A vintage wine from the AOC Vosne Romanée will also be a perfect match with a leg of lamb patiently roasted in the oven or with a slightly marked taste of bird meat (pheasant, guinea fowl, partridge or pigeon).
