Collioure is located in the southeastern France in Roussillon region, also known as French Catalonia. Collioure wines are the area's dry table wines, while those labeled Banyuls are the sweet wines produced from the same vineyards. Until recently the production was only red and rosé wines, but since 2002 also white wine can be produced. The vines are planted on steep terraces overlooking the sea, the soils being mainly composed of brown schist. The red wines, made of mainly Grenache, Syrah and Carignan grapes, are powerful, full-bodied and intensively ripe. The whites, made of Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris grapes, are full-bodied, but they also show a beautiful freshness and mineral notes.
