Hook & Ladder is a family estate founded in 1970. Cecil de Loach (firefighter in San Francisco) and his wife Christine bought the Barbieri Ranch in the coveted Russian River region. During these early years, Cecil continued his work as a firefighter while two into their new roles as winegrowers. They took classes at Santa Rosa Junior College and UC Davis, read everything they could find about grape growing and winemaking, and took advantage of the generous guidance offered by neighboring winemakers and winemakers, many of whom. took care of the "old vines" of the region for decades. This estate specializes in small bottling of Pinot Noir , "Old Vine" Zinfandel , Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-type blends from sustainably operated family vineyards in the Russian River Valley and its sub-appellation, Chalk Hill. The winery also produces and sells olive oil from the trees at Los Amigos Ranch.
