After four years of searching through the vast landscapes of China to find the ideal terroir to produce a red wine on a par with the world's greatest, the perfect spot was found in northern Yunnan, a region with fantastic viticultural potential, on the banks of the Mekong River: a little corner of paradise stranded in the foothills of the Himalayas, not far from the mythical city of Shangri-La. The vineyards of Ao Yun, owned by the LVMH group, are located in the villages of Adong, Xidang, Sinong and Shuori, at the foot of the sacred Meili mountains, at altitudes ranging from 2,200 to 2,600 metres, which allow the Cabernet Sauvignon to express all the finesse of this unique soil. The local farmers have been cultivating this land for centuries and have adapted to this steep mountainous region. In keeping with tradition, the entire winemaking process is done by hand. The Ao Yun terroir enjoys exceptional climatic conditions with temperatures similar to those in the Bordeaux region. Ao Yun means "flying above the clouds", in reference to the thick clouds that settle over the mountain ranges.
