One of the finest of white grape varietals
Also called Roter traminer in Germany. Well known in Alsace, where the term also designates the appellation of wines made from this grape variety. "Traminer" is in fact the aromatic white grape variety of Tramin (Northern Italy), a term to which is added "gewürz" which means "spicy" or "aromatic". And for good reason, the rarity of its powerful and very characteristic scents reminiscent of rose or lychee is prized. Aromas that are at times even heady and intense, with a rich bouquet. Gewuztraminer is vinified as a dry white wine or as a sweet wine in vendanges tardives (late harvests), or sélection grains nobles. It is therefore not a grape variety with a high yield, which makes the resulting wines highly valued.

Alsace Gewurztraminer, Alsace Grand Cru
Alsace Gewuztraminer Sélection Grains Nobles, Alsace Gewuztraminer Vendanges Tardives.
Aromatic power out of the ordinary. Characteristic notes of lychee and rose, complemented by aromas of quince, citrus peel, candied apricot, acacia, sweet spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves) and possible exotic notes (pineapple, passion fruit, mango).
The botrytised grape (known as affected by "noble rot") gives birth to a sweet wine with a golden yellow colour and amber hues. On the nose we find the same aromatic range as in dry wines but with more nuances of honey and dried apricot. The cuvées from the Grains Nobles selection are sweeter than those from the Vendanges Tardives. Creamy on the palate with a pronounced sweetness. Smooth and persistent length. A delightful mouth feel!
Ideal with seafood (crab, lobster, prawns) and fish in curry sauce. Its aromatic power goes well with Chinese, Indian, Thai or Malaysian cuisine. Washed rind cheeses: Munster, Livarot, Maroille, Epoisse, Mont d'Or...
Alsatian specialities: Munster with cumin seeds, as well as blue-veined cheeses, fresh or fried foie gras on spiced bread. Dessert: Yellow or white fruit tarts. Tart tatin. Exotic fruit desserts (mango, pineapple, passion fruit, mango tree...).
Gewurztraminer based wines are straightforward with a strong personality that explodes on the nose and in the mouth with a persistent finish.Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives are mellow wines, while Gewurztraminer Sélection Grains Nobles are made from noble rot and have a higher sugar content. A natural sweetness that allows it to be cellared for many years.
