CONTINO VIÑA DEL OLIVO 2020 - CVNE

0,75 L Red Wine / Spain / Rioja / Rioja DOCa / 13,5 % vol

"There is no room for sweetness here, and the wine is tasty. It is very young and shows a very nice finesse." R.Parker
Viña del Olivo is the flagship bottling of a single vineyard from a plot planted in 1980 on a mixture of limestone and clay, which is rare on the property where the majority of the soils are alluvial; the estate is located in a large bend in the Ebro. The first vineyard to be harvested on September 6, it comes from a blend of Tempranillo with 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuela. It had a smooth and long fermentation in small oak vats, and the aging was 16 months in barrels and three additional months in oak vats. It follows the style of the 2016 and is leaner and a bit more austere, with an electric palate and good acidity.

CONTINO

Contino, the first castle in La Rioja was founded in 1973 by the century-old winery CVNE and the owners of the 62-hectare estate located in Rioja Alavesa. The history of the property dates back to the 16th century and is registered under the same name. The “contino” was this officer in charge of a guard of around a hundred soldiers who had “continuously” watched over the royal family since the time of the Catholic Monarchs. The wine produced on this property, fruity and elegant, is heir to the best Riojan tradition. It is carried out with an individualized harvesting system, coming only from the same vineyards that surround the old manor and its origin of the different plots is marked. The perfect combination of the soils, the Atlantic-Mediterranean climate and the refined technique have made Contino, more than thirty years after its first vintage, a benchmark both inside and outside Spain.
