THE STRUIE SHIRAZ 2021 - TORBRECK

0,75 L Red Wine / Australia / South Australia / Barossa Valley / 15 % vol / 100% Syrah

"It remains supple and smooth from start to finish, where hints of licorice and warmth emphasize the wine's ripeness." Robert Parker
The name The Struie comes from a mountain in the highlands of north-east Scotland overlooking the Torbreck Forest where David Powell, the founder of this Australian estate, worked for many years as a lumberjack. This 100% Shiraz is an elegant and structured wine: a clever blend of fruit from a single vineyard with intense flavours. You can feel it as soon as you open the bottle, letting fruity and spicy aromas escape. On the palate it is a harmony of sweet and long flavours that caress the palate, with ripe fruit notes of plums, violets and blueberries with subtle cocoa notes. Hidden spices reinforce the natural elegance and tension of the old vines that make up The Struie.

TORBRECK

David Powell was destined for the accounting profession when an uncle introduced him to the world of vines and wine. He found a job in Rockford, in the Barossa Valley, close to the old vines of Shiraz, of which he would later become a specialty, while traveling in Europe and the United States where he made several harvest campaigns. In 1992 he cleaned a few plots of old abandoned vines on behalf of owners before taking over several hectares in sharecropping. Fascinated by the wines of the Rhône, he is convinced of the potential of the Barossa Valley at a time when the old vines of the region are still being torn down massively. This intuition will quickly be rewarded. In 1994, he founded the Torbreck estate, named after a Scottish forest in the Highlands where he had worked for several years as a lumberjack, and vinified his first vintages in a modest shed. Year after year, he refines the style of his wines, staying true to his original source of inspiration, the Rhône, from venerable strains of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Torbreck is today a major producer of Barossa.
