True to its legendary quality, its appellation and the reputation of Domaine Combier, this Clos des Grives once again sets the bar very high. I was delighted to taste this 2021 vintage, full of freshness, with a basket of red fruit and spices.
If Laurent Combier is one of the most brilliant wine-makers in the Rhône Valley, it is certainly down to his family heritage that influenced his very personal approach. The third generation to tend the vines, he has succeeded in developing the estate by gaining the status of independent wine-maker and by investing in organic cultivation. The consistency and quality of his wines have constantly progressed making them the amongst the best in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. Through the optimisation of low yields to fully focus on quality, Laurent Combier has become a victim of his own success - seeing his wines speak for themselves and quickly becoming hard to come by.
