This is a fine wine that deserves its high marks from professional tasters around the world. The nose is deep and subtle. Superb length on the palate with a frank attack on red fruits, which then softens on plum and tobacco. The tannins are just right and melted. Well done!
Contino, the first castle in La Rioja was founded in 1973 by the century-old winery CVNE and the owners of the 62-hectare estate located in Rioja Alavesa. The history of the property dates back to the 16th century and is registered under the same name. The “contino” was this officer in charge of a guard of around a hundred soldiers who had “continuously” watched over the royal family since the time of the Catholic Monarchs. The wine produced on this property, fruity and elegant, is heir to the best Riojan tradition. It is carried out with an individualized harvesting system, coming only from the same vineyards that surround the old manor and its origin of the different plots is marked. The perfect combination of the soils, the Atlantic-Mediterranean climate and the refined technique have made Contino, more than thirty years after its first vintage, a benchmark both inside and outside Spain.
