CHATEAU CANTIN

Château Cantin is one of the great names of the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation. In 1770, Cantin (the name of the stream which passes next to the property) already appears as a vineyard on the “Carte de Belleyme”, cartographer of King Louis XV. It was then sold as national property during the Revolution, to a neighbor the Baron de Mauvezin and remained in this family for about 100 years. In 1890, Alphonse Bisch, a Parisian wine merchant, acquired it. He expanded the property to 72 hectares. Following his death in 1913, his widow sold the estate a year later to the Chamson family. From 1988, Mr. Benatar and the Marquis de la Croix Landol took over the reins and began to reconnect with the prestigious past of this property. The estate was then sold to Mr. Leprince, then sold to the Union Française de Gestion, which choosed to keep him as a farmer. After many vicissitudes, the Helfrich family became the titleholder of Château Cantin. The latter is now undertaking to revive its prestigious past with a first harvest in 2007.
