When a wine is placed in casks for ageing, the part of the volume that evaporates is called "la part des anges" (the angels' share). The Part des anges is a rather unusual wine for a Châteauneuf-du-Pape because it is the Mourvèdre that dominates 70% of the blend completed by 20% Grenache and 10% Syrah. This does not detract from the beauty of the bottle; on the contrary, its atypical and temperamental side gives it a charming advantage. However, the wine needs to be decanted, if you open it in the next two years.

RAYMOND USSEGLIO

The estate was created by Francis USSEGLIO who came from Italy in 1931 and settled in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and started to produce his own wine in 1948. In 1963 Raymond took over and with his wife Danielle they created and expanded the estate which was to bear the name of DOMAINE USSEGLIO RAYMOND. Since 1999, it is now the son's turn to cultivate the 24 hectares of the estate. Like the "climats" in Burgundy, the different plots offer a mosaic of different terroirs and exposures. The working principles are both simple and complex. In order to preserve and respect the life and balance of the terroirs and vines, the work is carried out using biodynamic methods, which require a great deal of observation and specific care.
