CLOS DE L'OURS - URSUS ROUGE 2019

0,75 L Red Wine / France / Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur / Côtes de Provence AOP / 14,5 % vol

AB (organic wine) EU organic farming Independent winemakers
A sincere and impressive wine with a southern flair, rich and concentrated!
Made from an exceptionally concentrated plot of Syrah, the Ursus red is a great wine for ageing with notes of candied black fruit. The deep garnet red colour is impressive. The nose is very aromatic with powerful notes of black cherry and blackberry, enhanced by pretty spicy notes. The wine expands nicely on the palate, the tannins are well integrated with a structured body, a beautiful intensity, while maintaining an appreciable freshness. With a long aromatic persistence, this is a voluptuous wine with a certain ageing potential!

CLOS DE L'OURS

The origins of the estate are remote. They date back to the Middle Ages, when a large part of Cotignac and its surroundings were owned by the Templars. The estate, one of the most northerly of the Côtes de Provence appellation, benefits from an exceptional microclimate. The thermal amplitudes are important, especially in summer, with hot days and cool nights, which is very beneficial to the vines and allows a slow and regular maturity of the grapes. More than 3000 hours of sunshine per year and the protection of the Mistral against humidity are a precious help to the work as winegrowers. The clay-limestone soil is perfectly suited to the Provençal grape varieties and allows the old vines to express their full potential. The vineyard has eight grape varieties. Three white grape varieties, Rolle, Clairette and Ugni Blanc and five red grape varieties: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault. The vines are on average 50 years old, the oldest vines being 70 years old.
