In 1906, Jean Antoine Vigné-Lourac, the last descendant without a direct successor from a family of winegrowers over 300 years old, ceded the vineyard to his nephew: Alain Gayrel's grandfather. Young, rather rebellious, resistant to the established order but seized with an irresistible desire to travel and discover the world, Alain Gayrel abandoned his studies at 19 to expedite his military obligations. The serious illness which struck his father during what he called "a waste of time in uniform", forced him to give up his immediate plans to globetrotter and to return, temporarily, he thought, to the family vineyard. From then on, his life plan changed radically: taken with passion by this profession that he had never considered doing, he immediately dedicated himself to the development of this small 9-hectare vineyard to make it the business that she has become today. He will devote his whole life to its expansion by imagining original wines rooted in this terroir, on which he will affix his signature. The Gayrel vineyards team perpetuates the professional heritage left by Alain Gayrel, by developing, using his method which combines tradition and the latest techniques, authentic, modern and original wines.
