Recougne comes from the Latin terra recognita (“known land”). If you did not know that a great wine is produced in this domaine, the blind tasting will prove it. Its dominant Melot (77%) can be perceived thanks to the delicious aromas of black fruits, violets, spices and liquorice. There is also a perceptible presence in the characteristic roundness that leaves its mark in an intense, dense, full, velvety palate with tannins that are both fine and firm. To support it there is a touch of freshness that provides additional nerve and a magnificent length. Not waiting to open this bottle would be a sin, but it is tempting to succumb to it!

CHATEAU RECOUGNE

Close to the Fronsac hillock which dominates the Dordogne, the 100ha of the vineyard extend over gentle clay-sandy slopes with a subsoil of iron filth. Composed mainly of Merlot, the vineyard also includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Carménère. A cuvée is dedicated to this grape variety, rare in Bordeaux, which offers a deep colour and gives spicy notes.
