This great Italian white is one of Robert Parker's top 100 most beautiful discoveries of the year!
This is a new project by the CEO of Feudi di San Gregorio, Antonio Capaldo. The Tenute Capaldo Greco di Tufo Goleto is named after a white stone monastery that frames the background of this vineyard. After years of intense experimentation at the Feudi winery, with a dozen commercial bottlings of single vineyard expressions of Greco and Fiano grapes from various specific geological sites throughout Irpinia, Antonio and his team are ready to unveil their best results. It does not go unnoticed that this wine is a Greco. In the ongoing battle for supremacy between Campania's two main white grape varieties, it seems that Tenute Capaldo has bet on Greco, known for its immediate freshness and encouraging ageing capacity. Will Greco become one of the noble whites of southern Italy? The answer here seems to be yes. Antonio says: "Greco is the most important variety we have here in Irpina." This wine will be upgraded to Riserva status (the vines are 70 years old and are planted on limestone and sulphurous soils). The 2018 and 2018 vintages are characterised by the heat waves of the summer months. With only 5,000 bottles produced, the wine shines brightly from the inside. The bouquet is extremely chiselled and fine at this young stage, with a well inked sea breeze and mineral notes that are so representative of what is much appreciated in Campania wines. These aromas are still a little tight and vigorous now, and this bodes well for the future development of the wine.
