PETRUS 1989

0,75 L Red Wine / France / Bordeaux / Pomerol AOC / 13,5 % vol / 100% Merlot

"As prodigious as Petrus can be." Robert Parker
Petrus is undoubtedly the most prestigious wine of the Pomerol appellation. Petrus is a rich, round and velvety wine. Although very concentrated, with fleshy and opulent fruit, the wine of Pétrus is distinguished by an incredible harmony and persistence. This is a vintage of anthology. On tasting, one can still appreciate a superb dark garnet colour, without fading at the edges. Fruity scents emerge from the glass, complex and of incredible finesse: blackcurrant, spices, leather and tobacco, with a discreet mentholated touch. The palate is fabulously well-defined, the aromas are of great intensity, with spectacular richness, and a tannic structure that is still dense and perfectly delineated. The finish is very long, and lingers for a good minute. A spectacular wine!

PETRUS

By itself, the name of Petrus is a legend! Throughout the 19th century the estate belonged to the Arnaud family. In 1925, a Libournaise, Ms. Loubat, took shares in the property. Twenty years later, she is the sole owner. Not admitting that Médoc wines sell for more than Pomerols and in particular hers, she does everything to take advantage of such a promising terroir. In a few decades the myth was born. In 1961, Ms. Lacoste and Mr. Lignac, niece and nephew of Mme Loubat, inherited the estate. More recently, Jean-Pierre Moueix, trader and traditional partner of the Château, bought Mr. Lignac's shares and runs the property with Ms. Lacoste.
