RUNRIG SHIRAZ VIOGNIER 2018 - TORBRECK

0,75 L Red Wine / Australia / Barossa Valley / Barossa Valley / 15 % vol

"While approachable now—and even damn enjoyable—it deserves another several years in the cellar." Robert Parker
The wines of the vintage will be remembered for their impressive colour, structure and longevity. Runrig is proof of this. While wonderfully aromatic, Runrig also exhibits a power and richness of flavour with blackberry, plum and cherry fruit and subtle notes of spicy dark chocolate. Runrig Shiraz-Viognier is certainly one of the most powerful and long-lasting wines, with a full-bodied, intense, firm and long mouthfeel and impressive tannins, as well as a depth and balance that will last for decades. An exceptional vintage and wine.

TORBRECK

David Powell was destined for the accounting profession when an uncle introduced him to the world of vines and wine. He found a job in Rockford, in the Barossa Valley, close to the old vines of Shiraz, of which he would later become a specialty, while traveling in Europe and the United States where he made several harvest campaigns. In 1992 he cleaned a few plots of old abandoned vines on behalf of owners before taking over several hectares in sharecropping. Fascinated by the wines of the Rhône, he is convinced of the potential of the Barossa Valley at a time when the old vines of the region are still being torn down massively. This intuition will quickly be rewarded. In 1994, he founded the Torbreck estate, named after a Scottish forest in the Highlands where he had worked for several years as a lumberjack, and vinified his first vintages in a modest shed. Year after year, he refines the style of his wines, staying true to his original source of inspiration, the Rhône, from venerable strains of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Torbreck is today a major producer of Barossa.
