Subtly sweet, pleasant, ideal as an aperitif or for light desserts. It has too much power in the aroma and perhaps lacks some depth on the palate. Elegance and balance are its strong points.more reviews

"This is an excellent, mouth-filling yet very stimulating Layon." Robert Parker
Idealist for some, troublemaker for others, Patrick Baudouin leaves no lover of Anjou wines indifferent. An ardent defender of great natural sweet wines in the 1990s, the former bookseller decided with other winegrowers to found the "Syndicat des Antisucreurs" on the principle that wine should only be based on grapes. This is what gives the Coteaux du Layon "1896" all its splendour. On the nose, mineral and refreshing notes make us salivate. On the palate, both powerful and fresh, giving a long, intense and salty finish. A sweet white wine of character, smooth and light, making all the difference in its category.

An excellent sweet wine, perfect for an aperitif, foie gras or dessert. A little too sweet for my taste, so share with 4 or 5 people.

Domaine Baudouin, 1896, a wine with a very high ageing potential (need??), it will certainly be much better in 15 - 20 years.
Very strong candied fruit on the palate, quince and peach explode on the palate. A hint of minerality on the palate.

Magnificent gold colour, sublime, very aromatic nose with a lovely expression on the palate and good length.
Domaine Patrick Baudouin really does produce some superb wines, and this one is right up there with the best.
Always a pleasure to taste.

DOMAINE BAUDOUIN

Maria Juby and Louis Juby, great-grandparents of Patrick Baudouin, are the founders of this estate in 1920. In 1990, after other professional activities, Patrick Baudouin returned to strengthen the estate on the basis of the small and former family cellar. Today there are 14 hectares of vines in production spread over the beautiful soils of "Anjou noir", that of schists, sandstones and volcanic rocks. Since 1997 the tillage has been resumed with the abandonment of chemical weedkillers. In the cellar, since 1994 no wine has been chaptalised, and the doses of sulphur used limited as much as possible. In 2002, the estate began to convert its vines to organic farming. Any new plot rented or purchased is immediately converted, if it is not organic.
