A sharp Chateauneuf du Pape produced by one of the appellation's benchmark estates... tasting reveals a complex, powerful wine. All its elegance will be revealed after a few years' cellaring.
Pierre Usseglio, of Italian origin, came to work in Châteauneuf-du-Pape between the two wars. He fell in love with the region and set up on his own in 1948 by taking over 8 hectares. His sons have since taken over and developed the estate to expand it to 24 hectares. They produce frank and gourmet wines from these which can be enjoyed in their youth. The prices of these have remained reasonable given the price surges of the past five years. Their Mon Aïeul cuvée contrasts with the rest of the production.
