CHATEAU COS D'ESTOURNEL 2016 - SECOND CRU CLASSE

0,75 L Red Wine / France / Bordeaux / Saint-Estèphe AOC / 13,5 % vol

This year has given us a very fine Cos d'Estournel: elegance in its purest state!
The origin of 'Cos', meaning 'hill of pebbles' in old Gascon, perfectly reflects the geographic advantages of this Grand Cru Classé. However, the Cos d'Estournel vineyards enjoy an incredible diversity of soils, allowing each grape variety to fully express itself, giving us an extraordinary wine that makes intense use of every aroma. The nose gives us aromas of dark fruit, cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate reveals a powerful wine with noticeable but perfectly integrated tannins that give structure to the whole. The finish is very long and fresh. This wine is perfectly balanced. For Robert Parker, this wine is 'a beauty and an undeniable success in the Médoc'. A must-have in the Saint-Estèphe appellation!

CHÂTEAU COS D'ESTOURNEL

The Cos d'Estournel vineyard currently extends over 91 hectares. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes - 60% of the vineyard - find their preferred growing soil on the thin gravel of the summits and southern slopes. Merlot - 40% of the vineyard - thrives on the eastern slopes and the hillsides where the limestone bedrock of Saint-Estèphe is exposed. The percentage of Cabernet and Merlot in each vintage blend varies dependent on the year's weather conditions as they favour one grape or the other. To achieve lignous growth and lower yields on each rootstock that leads to the wine's "great flavour", the plantation is dense - 8,000 to 10,000 rootstocks per hectare depending on the parcel - and their average age is about 35 years. Wine carrying the name of Château Cos d'Estournel is only produced from rootstock of over 20 years.
