LEAVE YOUR REVIEWThis is a good Beaujolais Villages, fruity with subtle notes of blueberry and a medium body. Perfect for pasta and not overcomplex preparations. Good quality price ratio.
I am surprised that I liked this wine more so than some of the other Beaujolais. Fresh, fruity, goes well with all food. Well balanced flavours and a nice lingering aftertaste.
Today it is Arnaud Despres who is in charge of producing the wine and marketing it throughout the world. The Domaine de la Madone covers 17 hectares. The estate takes its name from the small chapel erected at the top of the hill overlooking the village of Fleurie. Topped by a statue of the virgin, it dates from 1866 and was built by winegrowers to protect the vines against powdery mildew (vine disease). The vines planted on this hill bear the name of climat classified "Madonna". Arnaud's great-great-grandfather was also one of the winegrowers who hoisted the statue to the top with the help of their oxen. Note that most of the domaine is on an extreme slope, which requires artisanal and manual cultivation. The family farm has grown since 2005 with the acquisition of Domaine du Niagara, 5 hectares that belonged to Arnaud's great-grandfather.
