MAGNUM CHATEAU SOCIANDO-MALLET 2016

1,5 L Red Wine / France / Bordeaux / Haut-Médoc AOC / 14 % vol

"I admire the completeness of this Sociando-Mallet. This 2016 is totally convincing. It is highly recommended as one of the best wines produced in northern Médoc." - Robert Parker -
Château Sociando-Mallet produces wines of great regularity, thanks in particular to its magnificent vineyard which occupies one of the finest gravel terroirs in the Médoc. The latter produces full-bodied wines with a beautiful dark and deep colour. Their bouquet is complex, usually dominated by notes of black fruit, a touch of minerality and a fine, well-integrated oak. Often a little "manly" in their youth, the wines gain in harmony and complexity with age. They are characterized by their freshness, their straightforwardness and their beautiful length. This 2016 vintage offers superb sap, with finesse and a smoothness of tannins that already make it irresistible. The fruit explodes in the mouth! Château Sociando-Mallet is traditionally a wine for ageing. This great 2016 vintage will be enjoyed with happiness even after 30 years in the cellar.

CHÂTEAU SOCIANDO-MALLET

With a gravelly terroir similar in nature to that of Montrose and Latour, Sociando-Mallet is however missing from any classification, but it has achieved the Cru Classé standard. It has to be said that the talented Jean Gautreau, the tireless artisan working to revive these wines, is there for a reason! Having bought back the estate in 1969, this prominent figure in the Médoc has not been mistaken and knew how to enhance this outstanding terroir for the best. Jean Gautreau then left at the end of 2019, leaving his daughter with an estate of huge fame amongst its fans. Today, Sociando-Mallet totals 95 hectares and produces vigorous, intense red wines with a soft oakiness that are clearly made for keeping. One, maybe even two generations can enjoy the same vintage!
