LEAVE YOUR REVIEWAnother great vintage in the Langhe. This is already showing well, if you don't mind a bit of tannins. Lots of fruit on the nose: cherries, violets, some spice, red fruit. More on the Pinot Noir side.
Intense ruby red colour with garnet tints. Dark cherry, vanilla and tobacco on the nose with oaky notes. Cherries, red berries and earthy notes in the taste. Velvety, elegant and balanced wine with structure and power behind it. Eager to taste after couple of years.
This red comes from one of the oldest estates in Barbaresco. The vineyards concentrated around the Ovello hill, produce the Nebbiolo grapes to this balanced Barbaresco, somewhat closed for now in the aromas with discrete floral notes, underbrush and black tea. It will develop in the next years.
Renato, winemaker and musician, and Franca, architect, a few years ago decided to abandon their respective careers to manage the Cantina del Pino together with Renato's parents and a small team of collaborators in love with this region. The family's vineyards are concentrated around the Ovello hill, a site known for its cool microclimate and the uniqueness of its soils in which limestone, sand and calcium mix, creating the ideal conditions for aging Barbaresco. After studying winemaking at the Alba Enological School and having worked side by side with great Barbaresco producers for five years, Renato felt the need to test his ideas and methods both in the vineyard and in the cellar, so in 1997 he convinces his father to create his own label. With the arrival of Franca in 2013, the company turns towards a more contemporary approach that reflects the enormous gratitude for having the privilege of being able to transform Barbaresco grapes into wine. Convinced that the secret to a good wine is the quality of the vineyard and the soil, the vineyard is worked with meticulous care, combining traditional and modern techniques, but always with the utmost respect for nature and the territory. Unfortunately, in 2020 Renato passed away due to a tumor and the company passed into the hands of Franca who pays tribute to Renato's memory by carrying on the work undertaken together and which made them known all over the world.
