I enjoyed this Rioja very much last month and I ordered extra bottles since. The 2015 vintage is ready for consumption, especially with some prior decanting. The nose is typical for Tempranillo from this region and the palet reveals plum, tobacco, vanilla and oak. The wine is elegant and balanced.more reviews

The best value Rioja Gran Reserva!
CVNE always sources half of its wine-making grapes but it now uses all its own-grown grapes for its vintage Cune Gran Reserva. Produced during a great vintage, this wine is a blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo (Cariñena). Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and concrete vats with wild yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation in concrete vats and then aged in French and American oak barrels for two years. The bottles are stored for at least three years before being put on the market. This vintage is generous and charming, with a nose of ripe fruits such as black cherry, fig and with gently spiced notes that reflect the traditional Gran Riservas style. The palate is smooth and balanced with very fine, silky tannins. A powerful Gran Riserva - still young but so seductive already!

This bottle has just begun coming unto its own and oak aromas and tannins have yet to fully integrate. It required some air to open up. Nice structure that should keep it going for years hence. Vanilla, leather, tobacco, wild berries, plum, carob and chocolate. Good QPR.

CUNE

The history of the company begins in this winery located in Haro in the Barrio de la Estación dating from 1879. Near the railway line that for a time reached the inside of the cellar in order to easily transport the wine in barrels and more late in bottle. CVNE controls approximately 545 hectares located in the Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa subzones. The vineyards of Rioja Alta, where the grapes for the wines of this winery come from, are characterized by clayey - limestone, clay - ferrous and alluvial soils and a predominantly Atlantic climate. In this cellar, harmony, tradition, quality and innovation come together. In 1940, Cune was a pioneer with the construction of the first concrete fermentation warehouse in Spain, in the 1980s it was the first non-aggressive vinification warehouse in Spain, that is to say to work only by gravity.
