GRANITE 2019 - DOMAINE DE L'ÉCU

0,75 L White Wine / France / Loire / Muscadet Sèvre et Maine AOC / 13,5 % vol / 100% Melon de Bourgogne

AB (organic wine) Biodyvin (organic wine label) Demeter (biodynamic label)
A Muscadet of formidable purity, sommeliers from around the world are gripped. Why not you?
This wine is made using a minimum of technological tools, reception of the harvest is by gravity, not using pumps, the bunches are not de-stemmed and fermentation is triggered by 100% indigenous yeasts. The ageing is done on lees in underground concrete tanks to maintain natural freshness, avoiding artificial thermoregulation. On this plot, granite brings a lot of minerality and finesse to the Melon de Bourgogne. The very elegant colour gives way to a nose with an unusual saline purity. We also find green apple and anise. On the palate, the verticality is unconventional with fantastic balance between acidity and bitterness and a very persistent finish worthy of the greatest whites.

DOMAINE DE L'ÉCU

Guy Bossard, talented winemaker from Domaine de L'Ecu represents the face of Muscadet all by himself. A convinced biodynamicist, he applied his methods from the beginning of the 1970s. Mocked in the beginning and then admired a few years later, Guy Bossard is one of the rare winegrowers to have known how to elevate Muscadet to the rank of great wine. The convincing quality over the vintages led him to biodynamic reconversion in 1996. Building on his success and his experience, he decided to hand over to a wine enthusiast (Muscadet in particular). Boeotian winegrower, Frédéric Nigervan Herck, whom everyone calls Fred, learns alongside his mentor all the subtleties of these Loire lands. In no time at all, he has assimilated all the knowledge and intuition of his master, ensuring the sustainability of what can be considered the best of Muscadet wines. The wines today show a lot of panache and precision. The aromatic complexity and depth of the wines on the palate seem to have propelled Fred's wines to the top of the bill. This estate has clearly taken off, producing without a doubt some of the greatest wines in the world.
