Produced over a 50-hectare parcel of quaternery gravel and previously part of the Château Beychevelle estate, Château Branaire-Ducru is one of the little-known gems of the Médoc. This Bordeaux wine is of an exemplary quality, standing out from its famous neighbour for its originality. Tasting inevitably reveals the red fruits and elegant tannins, a touch of spice and a chocolate flavour that's rare in the Saint-Julien appellation. Other points to note are the modern, gravity fermentation cellar (no pumps) that preserves the integrity of the fruit and the terroir along with a significant proportion - at least 50% - of the ageing barrels are new.
