Intense, elegant with well structured tannins and a full-on red fruits punch. Everything one would expect from a good St Emilion. A very nice wine which perfectly complemented summer bbq marinated lamb followed by Cantalmore reviews

“Pure velvet and very accurate" Jancis Robinson
Château Saintayme is one of many small domains managed by Denis Durantou (l'Eglise Clinet) according to his walk in the vineyards of Libourne. With this domaine, we are in the presence of a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru located in the municipality of Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse. The single vineyard is planted with a unique and particularly high quality rootstock, the riparia, associated with Merlot alone. The careful cultivation practices allow the vineyard an average age of 35 years. Worked as a garden, it produces less than 50 hectolitres per hectare. Here as elsewhere, Denis Durantou applies his know-how and methods that have made him one of the most influential men of the Right Bank. This wine has a nose of jam, a dense palate, blended tannins and a nice balance between elegance, structure and length. A very beautiful wine by Denis Durantou!

Lots of character here from the winemaking. Mocha notes to the fore enveloping a moderate fruit core and medium minus acidity. Possibly needs a little more extraction to provide more pleasure, although in a few years the balance may settle.
